In Home Personal Services: How They Managed To Reach New Heights

In Home Personal Services was started in January 2004 by Michael A. Collura, working with his Mother to cater quality care services to senior citizens who wanted to remain in the comfort of their own home.

“To be a genuine care provider with a real desire to help others and safeguard those who are vulnerable and have trusted us with their care. If we fail there, we are nothing” said, Michael A. Collura.

A journey towards the goal

Michael Collura’s journey was not easy. It’s like a crazy backward rocky road that was filled with potholes, detours, roadblocks, a few crashes, and a strange roadside sign that reads “danger ahead.” It has been exciting, wonderful, and rewarding for him and his team because that path has also allowed them to make a difference in the lives of countless others. They believe this sort of reward cannot be bought, measured on your bottom line, or placed in a trophy case as it lives in you and will be a source of strength and pride in ways no other achievement can possibly come close to.

Talking about the Experience

Though they are serving for 15+ years, their teams have a collective career experience in the senior care industry of well over 200 years. So, they are sure and confident about what they are doing, and they have made this career something of value. Not just by time passing and getting “one more year” under their belt. With time they developed, innovated, thrived, and expanded on every measure of quality care they deliver. Apart from that, they have established brand differentiators that so many other companies do not have. In other words, those are over 200 quality years under their belts.

Challenges that need to be overcome

As the Covid situation is going on like everyone else in the world, this pandemic hit them in the same way, and they, too, had to be ready to adapt. The good news is that they were prepared, and they did adapt early on. Collura has said that “These challenges were so much more than just another infectious disease event that we have tackled in the health care industry. This was more because of the level of public impact and the loss of life it has left in its wake.” He added, “Like any other challenge, it puts things into a new perspective; we rose to the challenge, adapted, and we have overcome so much this past year has thrown at us. Now we seek not just to ensure we never again have to face an enemy such as Covid unprepared as a world as we were. We now work to ensure that going forward, we as a brand and as a team of care providers are prepared on a new level to ensure the safety of those trusting us with their care is our top priority.”

Most Valuable Assets

Mr. Collura believes the most valuable asset he has is his team and the impact they have collectively made on the lives of others. He further recommended that “If any CEO is reading this and think your achievement is in a robust LinkedIn profile filled with “connections” and an inflated resume of exaggeration or that your company is mentioned in a magazine makes you a leader or that your work brought you in a lot of revenue is what makes you “successful”…you missed the opportunity.” He went on to explain that “It would turn out to be nothing more than another paper CEO with a self-appointed title and have no clue what real leadership and success is. Your self-employed, entitled, and delusional. Because success is not measured, or at least it never should be, by the value of your self-worth. It is measured by the impact and value you bring to others. My pride comes from elevating others, making others happy, bringing a sense of security, independence, and care to others. What am I most proud of? My team, our mission, and how we have achieved all we set out to do together.”

Standing out among the competitors.

There are so many things that are on the list. They could write a literal novel on the volume and details of what makes them different. They have spent years developing these strategies and advantages. If we sum it up for In Home Personal Services, they have worked with purpose and intent to be different, innovative, and forward-thinking, which has been the source of all those advantages that make them a different, unique, and successful brand as a leader in this industry.

“We stand out in so many different ways that are so significant. Not just as a brand, a culture, and a business. But as a care provider and leader in the senior care industry” said Michael A. Collura.

Motivation secret to being creative

Mr. Collura stated, there are three things that help them keep the team energized, such as food, coffee, and a candy dish, in nearly every room of the office. He believes that when it does not come naturally, we “feed” the fuel it needs to thrive! But seriously, when someone is nurtured to be open, honest, and have a voice, no matter their position in the company, it matters. In Home Personal Services does not place much value on someone’s title in this culture here. They place value on the individual and their input. So many of their best and most creative ideas did not come from the “top” executives. It came from those all around them and some from sources you would not think wanted to help or intended to make a positive impact. They, too, have a voice, and they listened.

A message to readers

Collura’s message to the readers is, “Be you, don’t try to be someone else. If you want to be a leader, forge your own path. That does not mean you should not seek out a mentor or work with those around you. It means that while you should always listen, you should also be ready to take your own path forward. Also, understand you do not have to make a lot of noise to grow, move forward, or create a tsunami of social interaction and controversy just to be successful. Small ripples in the pond will move and expand you in a calm and often more sustainable fashion. If you think being a dominator is the only means to be a leader, you already missed the point. If you cannot be truthful with yourself, there will be no truth to your vision or your success story later on. You are going to fail, be ready to embrace it.”
