The sensation of riding in a train is unique in and of itself. One’s heart is filled with a sense of excitement, wonder, and peace as they pass through lush fields, mud dwellings, sugar plants, dense forests, rice fields, hills, and an open sky. Everyone always has a new and unforgettable experience on the train. In this article, you are going to read about the top 5 longest train routes in India.

Longest Train Routes in India

1. Dibrugarh to Kanyakumari (Vivek Express)

The Vivek Express travels one of the longest train routes in India, taking 82 hours and 45 minutes (3.5 days) to complete with roughly 56 scheduled stops. It starts in northern Assam and extends all the way to Kanyakumari at the southernmost point of India. This weekly train, named for Swami Vivekananda, was launched to commemorate the 150th birthday of the Indian philosopher and seer. It travels across eight states and is the ninth-longest train route in the world. It travels 4,273 kilometers in total.

2. Thiruvananthapuram (Silchar Superfast Express)

After being extended to Silchar (Assam) on November 21, 2017, the weekly Thiruvananthapuram Central – Guwahati Superfast Express train was renamed Thiruvananthapuram – Silchar Superfast Express. With 54 stops after this extension, it is now the longest-running super-fast train. The train runs for around 76 hours and 35 minutes. It runs on Sunday at the Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) source station in the south and covers a distance of 3,931 kilometers in total. That makes it the 2nd in the longest train routes in India.

3. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Kanyakumari (Himsagar Express)

This weekly train travels between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra in Jammu & Kashmir and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu every Monday. It passes through 12 of the nation’s 29 states while stopping at 71 stations, totaling a duration of 73 hours and 5 minutes. Indians from the south who want to travel to Vaishno Devi for a pilgrimage frequently take this train.

4. Mangalore Central to Jammu Tawi (Navyug Express)

The Navyug Express travels over 4 days and 15 minutes, stopping at 59 scheduled stations between Mangaluru Central in Karnataka and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. To enhance Jammu & Kashmir’s connection to the rest of the nation, Navyug, which means New Era, was implemented. This once-weekly express travels 3,690 kilometers over 15 states on Mondays, stopping in 15 different states.

5. Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu) to Jammu (Ten Jammu Express)

The Ten Jammu Express travels 3,642 kilometers from Tirunelveli in the far south of Tamil Nadu to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra in Jammu & Kashmir. It stops at 62 of the 523 stations along the way, taking around 69 hours to travel from Tirunelveli to Jammu Tawi. The train travels twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, and passes through 11 states.

Conclusion

Those were the top 5 longest train routes in India. With a total route length of 68,043 kilometers (42,280 km), a running track length of 102,831 km (63,896 mi), and a track length of 128,305 km (79,725 mi), the Indian Railways had the fourth-largest rail network in the world. And because of these long and broad lines, India’s railway network is the world’s largest railway system under the sole supervision of the Ministry of Railways.
