There are many places in America to play golf if you love the game and are either a resident or a visitor. There are about 17,000 golf courses in the US, yet the majority of players cannot access many of them because they are private. Fortunately, public golf courses continue to be widely available across the nation. Several of the world’s most renowned golf courses, including Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black, and TPC Sawgrass, the site of The Players Championship, are among the most notable public courses in the US. Here are 10 best public golf courses in the US in 2024.

Best Public Golf Courses in the US

1. Rock Barn Country Club & Spa

The Jackson Course is among the most excellent weekend public golf deals in the area. Comprising an additional 18-hole private course, the Rock Barn resort also houses this course. Bentgrass greens that are kept in excellent condition. The layout has a number of visually stunning holes and heart-pumping, risk-reward scoring chances. There’s the biggest putting green you’ll find anywhere in the practice area. Such features make it one of the best public Golf Courses in the US.

2. Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club

Verdict Ridge, one of the most aesthetically pleasing courses in the region, provides beauty, challenge, conditions, and amenities that are comparable to those of the neighboring exclusive clubs around Lake Norman. It features continuous, steep hills and valleys, much like a mountain course. During your round, there are bound to be some uneven and slanted lies. Champion Bermuda greens keep the course in excellent condition throughout the year. One of the most exquisite holes is the 9th hole, a 347-yard par-4.

3. Eagle Chase Golf Club

With no homes or other signs of civilization to interfere with your round of golf, Eagle Chase is tucked away among Union County’s fields. Nearly every hole on the golf course has an elevated tee or green, giving it a mountain-like feel. The course has Diamond Zoysia grass greens. The amazing stretch of Nos. 11–13 on the back nine makes for some amazing shots. A cult favorite, the par-4 13th hole is just 334 yards from the elevated back tee and requires a crossing over the pond.

4. Rocky River Golf Club

Rocky River Golf Club provides resort-style facilities and is close to Charlotte Motor Speedway, Embassy Suites hotel, and spa. Playing the first few holes, you can frequently hear drivers rehearsing as it’s located directly in NASCAR’s backyard. With its well-kept fairways and Bermuda-covered greens winding between marshes and Carolina pines, this Dan Maples design has the sense of a resort course. The 53rd hole is a par 3 that offers long hitters the possibility of making a birdie because of the massive boulder in the center of the fairway.

5. Warrior Golf Club

Warrior Golf Club, which is conveniently located near Charlotte’s I-77 and I-85, is a stunning golf course with flawless Bermuda greens, rolling terrain, and stunning vistas of the 52-acre Lake Wright.  At Warrior Golf Club, you’ll find sloping fairways and undulating hills. On several holes, the lake serves as both a picturesque backdrop and a soggy cemetery for your golf balls. The thrilling risk-reward par-5 17th is a fantastic way to finish your round because it presents a wonderful opportunity to aim for the green in two and make an eagle.

6. Skybrook Golf Club

Skybrook’s enhanced facilities and course conditions following a 2019 makeover and ownership shift have solidified its place among the best public golf courses in the US.  With steep drops from tee to green, sloping fairways, and undulating greens, it seems very much like a mountain course. Featuring a short but strategically placed par 4, an elongated par 3 across the water, a terrifying dogleg left par 4 guarded by a pond, and the iconic S-shaped closing par 5, this 4-hole stretch is among the best.

7. Deer Brook Golf Club

Deer Brook is well worth the travel from Charlotte since it has an attractive, difficult layout and excellent course conditions. The picturesque layout of this hidden gem includes locations on both 9s that offer breathtaking views of multiple holes. The bentgrass greens, which are usually fast, tiered, and slanted, account for a large portion of the course’s difficulty. The 17th hole, a par-5, may entice you to shoot for a green in two, however, you must navigate the stream that runs along the right side of the hole with the first shot.

8. Edgewater Golf Club

A memorable and serene round of golf may be had at Edgewater Golf Club, which is tucked away among the stately pines of rural South Carolina. The 7th hole, a dogleg left par-4 that demands a sharply downhill tee shot and a pond protecting the corner, is the hardest. However, you might be more successful in the last stretch. Even a mediocre hitter can make a birdie on the short, uphill, par-5 17th hole with a dogleg left.

9. Carolina Lakes Golf Club

Among the top practicing facilities in the area, Carolina Lakes features an amazing layout with enjoyable challenges for players of all skill levels. Situated south of Ballantyne, just over the state line, this layout boasts a number of interesting and appealing holes that include a range of doglegs, elevation changes, shorter risk-reward par-4s, and reachable par-5s. Along with numerous out-of-bounds, numerous natural dangers, and hundreds of sand bunkers, the majority of the holes are lined with houses.

10. Bandon Dunes Golf Resort

Playing on a windswept course with craggy dunes is something that every golfer should experience. At the Bandon Dunes golf course, you can sense a deeper awareness of nature. Here, the weather is constantly changing, so each game will be distinct and different. There are six courses total at the large complex, including a 3-par. One of the nicest layouts is found at Pacific Dunes. Staying and embracing the enormous dunes is essential to experiencing the spirit of golf and exploring the game at its best.

Conclusion

That concludes our list of 10 best public golf courses in the US 2024. Golfers can find unending happiness in the lush, well-manicured grass that covers hundreds of acres. The large, open golf field improves players’ ability to focus. That might be all you need to reach the heights of your golfing potential.
